About Our Cause

Zeke's Story

Zeke has been accepted to receive a dog from Mission Ready Retrievers when a good match is found, probably this Spring/Summer (2025). The cost of a dog through this breeder is $3,000. Once Zeke has a puppy that has been identified as a good service dog prospect and adopted at 8 weeks from a breeder, Zeke will be doing 6-24 months of 4-day-a-week Day Training with Sits 'n Wiggles Service Dog Training 'n Behavior Consulting and between 0-18 months of Private Weekly Training Sessions, with all training culminating when the dog is around 24 months old. The total cost of this training will be between $17,815 and $40,130 total over the 2 years, payable in installments at the beginning of each month's training. For more information on this training, visit https://www.sitsnwigglescle.com/. For more information on the breeders, visit their Facebook pages.

Zeke has other chronic health conditions, mental health issues, and mobility challenges, including drop foot, scoliosis, a pelvic deformity, gastroparesis, cyclic vomiting syndrome, migraines,  a dissociative disorder, ADHD, depression, anxiety, and more.

Zeke still has a good quality of life, though, participating in a local concert band and wheelchair dance, making arts and crafts, and enjoying time with their cat. Zeke loves animals and people, and they look forward to the ways the dog will be able to help in their daily life.

Zeke's dog will be trained in medical response for their POTS and orthostatic intolerance, to help Zeke recover faster from syncope and pre-syncope. The dog might also be able to alert to these episodes before they happen. The dog will also be trained in grounding for Zeke's autism and PTSD, which will allow them to access their immediate neighborhood more safely and independently, and he will be trained in mobility tasks, as Zeke is in a wheelchair.

Our Initiatives

Current Focus Areas

We are currently focusing our fundraising efforts on the breeder, so direct donations on GoFundMe or to our STABLE account are the most helpful, as well as donations of items off our Fundraising Amazon Wish List for our dog needs. If you live in Cleveland, check out our Shoe Drive for a Cause to see how your gently-used shoes can help our cause, the environment, and small business owners in developing nations.

Shoe Drive

From January 20-March 21, we are collecting new and gently-used shoes in partnership with Shoes with Heart, a Funds2Orgs brand. The purpose of the shoe drive is three-fold: to keep shoes out of landfills; to secure shoes for Funds2Orgs' micro-enterprise partners in developing nations; and to raise money for Zeke's service dog, as Funds2Orgs will pay Zeke per pound of shoes collected. Shoes can be dropped off at Case Western Reserve University's Disability Student Resources office in the Sears Building, The School of Dancing Wheels' dressing area at their studios on Euclid Ave, or The LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland on Detroit, all in Cleveland, OH. We will also be collecting shoes at our April 5th Inclusive Family Fun Day at North Park in Seven Hills from 1pm-5pm. Finally, you can write zekes.service.dog.fundrasier@gmail.com to inquire about mailing shoes to us if you have a bulk amount to send.

One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send to her son to law school. "We are excited about our shoe drive," typed Zeke. "We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate to us. By doing so, we raise money for my service dog, and we have the chance to help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities. It's a winwin for everyone.” By donating gently worn, used and new shoes to Zeke's Service Dog Fundraiser's shoe drive, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives around the world.
